Platform for Social Change, in collaboration with the Association of Consecrated Life and the Lviv School of Business Executives, is launching a project for General Superiors, Hegumens, and Economists of monastic communities. The project will focus on the development of management and leadership competencies, particularly in strategic planning, financial management, and the principles of synodal leadership.

Today, superiors, abbots, and economists of monastic communities face a number of challenges: the need to combine spiritual leadership with effective management, a lack of sufficient knowledge in finance and strategy, difficulties in resource mobilization, and the development of sustainable social initiatives. Additionally, they often face challenges in team management, maintaining psycho-emotional health in the complex environment of modern leadership, as well as struggles with ensuring the financial stability of organizations.

This is why we are launching a new comprehensive project aimed at:

  • Developing management and leadership competencies for General Superiors and Abbots, helping them navigate the challenges of combining spiritual leadership with administrative duties.
  • Deepening knowledge in strategic planning and financial management, which will allow them to effectively manage resources, create financially sustainable projects, and plan the development of their communities.
  • Developing skills in people management, trust-building, and resource mobilization, which will help resolve personnel and team management issues and foster a healthy community atmosphere.
  • Creating sustainable social initiatives that not only support the monastery’s mission but also contribute to its economic independence through social entrepreneurship.

This project is designed specifically for superiors, abbots, and economists who seek advanced knowledge in management, strategic approaches, financial literacy, social entrepreneurship, and leadership practices with synodal elements. The project will help them overcome issues related to effective management, financial stability, and resource mobilization.

The project consists of several programs:

  • A course for General Superiors and Abbots, “Leadership Management: Strategy and Service” — focused on developing management and leadership competencies, the basics of strategic planning, and the principles of synodal leadership, which will help solve managerial and financial challenges.
  • A course for Abbots and Abbesses, “The Art of Managing a Community” — aimed at developing skills in managing small religious communities, financial management, project management, and people management, enabling leaders to tackle daily challenges and ensure the stability of their communities.
  • A social entrepreneurship accelerator for Economists — focusing on developing social entrepreneurship, creating financially sustainable projects, and attracting resources to support the monastery’s mission, promoting economic independence and growth.

This project will be an important step toward the development of strong, effective, and synodal leadership in Ukrainian monastic communities, helping them overcome managerial challenges and achieve sustainable development through both practical and theoretical knowledge.

Additionally, the top three social entrepreneurship projects will be eligible for an 8000-euro grant for their development and scaling. Participants will also receive personalized mentoring support to help successfully implement their ideas and ensure the sustainable development of their projects.
